On April 20, ECCK organized a special roundtable meeting with National Assembly Member Hong Jungmin and representatives of ECCK member companies. During the meeting, Dr Hong and ECCK discussed the prospects of economic legislations in the post covid-19 era and ways to strengthen the cooperation between the National Assembly committees and European businesses.
ECCK shared candid opinions on the difficulties of the Korean business environment and constructive recommendations to improve the investment environment for the foreign business community in Korea. Dr Hong is a National Assembly’s Trade, Industry, Energy, SMEs and Startups Committee Member and the Floor Spokesperson of the ruling Democratic Party.
“The COVID-19 crisis has brought us many challenges, adding uncertainty to our daily lives and to the global economy. It is an urgent task to escape the emergency economic state hit hard by the virus outbreak, but at the same time, we must prepare for bigger hurdles to overcome in the post-COVID era. In a time of tough challenges and risks, I strongly believe that both the lawmakers and business must focus on fulfilling its own responsibilities, offering long-term solutions to real problems, building trust and confidence.”, said ECCK Chairperson Dirk Lukat.

On April 22, ECCK President Christoph Heider had a meeting with Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) Foreign Enterprises Ombudsman Kim Tae-Eung.
During the meeting, the two parties had a discussion on the future cooperation between ECCK and ACRC Ombudsman Office. Furthermore, ECCK delivered the grievances and complaints collected from its member companies to Ombudsman Kim. ACRC Foreign Enterprises Ombudsman Office will actively address those issues and provide feedback on them.
ACRC established the Foreign Enterprises Ombudsman Office (Investigating & Handling Civil Complaints) Government Complaints Counselling Center in Government Complex-Seoul on March 19, 2021.

On April 1, the ECCK had a meeting with Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), a specialized internet and security organization, concentrating on the success of the 4th industrial revolution and digital innovation.
Opportunities for future collaboration have been discussed during the meeting, and we are looking forward to our partnership with KISA.

On March 30, the ECCK joined the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), which pledge to participate in sustainable oceans and responsible seafood consumption with the MSC and UN Global Compact.
Joined by CEO of IKEA Frederik Johansson, GM of Conrad Mark Meaney, Norwegian Ambassador Frode Solberg, President & CEO of Dongwon Myoung Woo Lee, GM of Orga Whole Foods Byung Kyu Kang, ECCK signed the pledge.

ECCK President Christoph Heider participated in the 7th meeting of the EU-Korea FTA Civil Society Forum held from April 12 to 13, 2021. Led by Professor Ho Geun Lee, Chair of the Korean Domestic Advisory Group, and Thomas Jenkins, Chair of the European Union Domestic Advisory Group, the 2-day event revolved around discussions on Working Time, Social Dialogue as well as the effectiveness of the TSD chapter.
The ECCK was nominated by the European Commission to be a member of the European Union Domestic Advisory Group in 2016. The roles and responsibilities of its member are defined in the Trade and Sustainable Development Chapter of KOREA-EU FTA.

The Ministry of Justice has announced the change of the procedure for the period of stay for foreigners from July 1, 2021 that a visa will be granted only within the validity of the applicants’ passport. Thus, renewal of your passport prior to the visa application is recommended if your passport is to expire this year and are required to re-apply for your resident visa.
Following visa holders are exempted: Permanent Resident (F-5), Recognized Refugee (F-2-4), Humanitarian Status (G-1-6)
In case of passport renewal, you are required to report to the immigration office of jurisdiction within 15 days, in accordance with the Immigration Act.

On March 26, the ECCK Tourism Working Group had its kick-off meeting for 2021 at ECCK. The group discussed its plan for 2021 and shared experience and knowledge of the current tourism business in Korea.
The tourism working group hopes to improve the business environment for the tourism sector through collaboration within ECCK’s member companies.

The ECCK is pleased to announce that, Mr. Fabrice Espinosa, President of Airbus Korea has been elected as the new Chairperson of the ECCK Aerospace & Defense Working Group.
Mr. Espinosa was elected as the new Chairperson during the ECCK Aerospace & Defense Working Group meeting held on March 26. He will serve a two-year term as the Working Group Chairperson. We would like to sincerely congratulate Mr. Espinosa and look forward to his leadership for the working group.
