European Chamber of Commerce in Korea (ECCK) Revealed CSR Interview Series with Seven CSR Partners

Today, the ECCK released the trailer and 1st interview of its newly launched CSR interview series, a project called, “Unseen Korea: searching for hope beneath the surface of success”. The series consists of total 7 interviews.
Initiated by the ECCK with its 7 CSR partners, the project is planned in celebration of ECCK’s 10th anniversary, which will feature various societal issues in Korea that are often overlooked such as neglected children, homeless, underprivileged with no proper healthcare access, refugees, and foreign workers and so forth. One-on-one interviews of the representatives from ECCK’s CSR partners were taken place to explain about the issues and their activities in each area.
Despite the success in economic development for past few decades, the relative poverty rate, which indicates the ‘share of the population with an income of less than 50% of the respective national median income’, Korea is still known to be one of the highest among OCED countries. According to the data release by the OECD, in 2018, Korea marked the 4th highest relative poverty rate.
The ECCK CSR partners are as follows; Shinmyung orphanage, Anna’s house, Jeonjinsang clinic, Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), Ronald McDonalds House(RMHC), and Concern worldwide. Through this project, the ECCK is encouraging members to make a long-term commitment with CSR partners.

More information about the ECCK CSR partners:
  • Shinmyung orphanage: A childcare facility located in Incheon city. Founded in 1952, the centre takes care of children who do not receive adequate protection and nurture from their parents due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment
  • Anna’s house: A welfare organization run by Father Kim Ha-jong (Father Vincenzo Bordo), an Italian-born Catholic priest. Since 1998, it has been providing shelter for homeless and runaway teenagers in Seongnam city.
  • Jeonjinsang clinic: A medical social welfare centre run by Dr. Bae Hyun-Jung (Dr. Marie-Helene Brasseur), a Belgian doctor who has been serving neighbours in Siheung-dong, Seoul city for 45 years.
  • Bethania house: A social welfare shelter for migrant workers in Korea run by the Catholic church
  • Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF): An international medical humanitarian organization since 1971 that provides medical assistance to people affected by conflicts, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from healthcare.
  • Ronald McDonald House Charity (RMHC): A global non-profit corporation established in 1974 in the United States. It has been Providing a home-like house to children and their families who are being treated at hospitals for severe diseases to provide psychological stability and support. In Korea, has been operating its 1st home-like house since 2019.
  • Concern Worldwide: An international humanitarian organization founded in 1968 in Ireland tackling the root causes of extreme poverty and hunger in the poorest countries.

주한유럽상공회의소(ECCK), 7개 국내외 CSR 파트너 단체들과 특별한 인터뷰 시리즈 공개
주한유럽상공회의소(이하 ECCK)는 국내외 단체들과 사회공헌 활동에 대한 CSR인터뷰 시리즈의 예고편 및 첫번째 인터뷰를 오늘 공개하였다. 이번 프로젝트는 “보이지 않는 한국: 성공의 이면에 가려진 희망을 찾아서(Unseen Korea: searching for hope beneath the surface of success)”라는 주제로 총 7편의 인터뷰 비디오를 ECCK공식 웹사이트와 소셜미디어 그리고 동참한 단체들의 플랫폼을 통해 함께 공개한다.
올해 ECCK 설립 10주년을 기념하기 위한 이번 프로젝트는 국내외 7개 CSR 파트너들과 협력 하에 기획되었다. 한국 사회에서 소외된 다양한 사회적 약자들을 돕고 있는 CSR파트너들과의 일대일 인터뷰를 통해, 보호가 필요한 어린이, 노숙인, 적절한 의료지원을 받지 못하는 저소득층, 그리고 미등록 외국인 노동자 및 난민 등과 같이 다양한 한국 사회의 이슈들을 직접 다루며 각 분야에서 도움을 주고 있는 단체들의 활동에 대한 이야기를 담았다.
한국은 지난 수 십년 간의 성공적인 경제 성장에도 불구하고, 여전히 OECD국가 중 상대적 빈곤율이 높은 나라 중 하나로 알려졌다. 상대적 빈곤율은 해당 국가 중위 소득의 50% 미만 소득을 가진 인구의 비율을 뜻하며, OECD자료에(2018년)의하면 한국은 상대적 빈곤율 4위를 기록했다.
이번 프로젝트를 통해 ECCK는 회원사들이 CSR파트너들과 최소 3년간의 사회공헌 협약을 맺고 지속적으로 도움을 줄 수 있도록 격려하고 있다. 국내외7개 CSR파트너들은 “신명 보육원”, “안나의 집”, “전진상 의원”, “베다니아의 집”, “국경없는 의사회”, “로날드맥도널드 하우스 재단”, 그리고 “컨선 월드와이드”가 있다.

ECCK의 CSR 파트너들에 대한 좀 더 자세한 정보는 아래와 같다:
  • 신명 보육원: 1952년설립된 인천 소재 보육시설로, 학대, 방임, 유기 등의 이유로 부모로부터 적절한 보호와 양육을 받지 못하는 어린이들을 보호하고 돌보는 시설이다.
  • 안나의 집: 1998년 설립된 경기도 성남 소재 복지 시설로, 이탈리아 출신 천주교 신부인 김하종(빈센조 보르도)신부가 노숙인 지원 및 가출 청소년을 돕는 활동을 하고 있다.
  • 전진상 의원: 서울 양천구 시흥동에 위치한 저소득층 대상의 의료복지 시설로 벨기에 출신 의사인 배현정 원장(마리헬렌 브라써)이 지난 45년간 한국에서 지역사회 봉사를 이어가고 있다.
  • 베다니아의 집: 한국에서 거주하는 외국인 이주민, 난민, 환자 등을 돕는 복지 시설로, 천주교회에서 운영하고 있다.
  • 국경없는의사회(MSF): 국제 인도주의 의료 구호단체로 1971년 설립 이래 전 세계 분쟁, 전염병, 자연재해 현장과 의료 소외 지역에서 고통받는 환자에게 의료지원을 제공하고 있다.
  • 로날드맥도널드 하우스 재단(RMHC): 1974년 미국을 시작으로 설립된 글로벌 비영리법인으로 중증질환으로 병원에서 치료 중인 어린이와 그 가족들에게 하우스를 제공하여 심리적인 안정 및 지원을 하고 있으며, 한국에서는 경남 양산부산대학병원 안에 국내 1호 하우스를 2019년 9월 개관하여 현재 운영 중에 있다.
  • 컨선 월드와이드: 아일랜드에서 1968년 설립된 국제 인도적 단체로 전세계 극빈국들을 대상으로 가난과 기근 등의 문제에 적극 대응하고 있다.
